Waiting For My Copy of "Saints" to Arrive (9/12/2018)

Good Wednesday everyone,

Not too much to report this week. Kirtland last week was pretty good. We didn't go inside the Kirtland Temple though because the more money we give those guys the longer it takes the true Church to get it. Just kidding, the real reason we didn't go in is because we didn't have time. We got to see the Historic Kirtland site and the John Johnson farm, both of which were fun to check out.

We had a cool experience this Sunday having a lesson with a person we've been teaching named JB who has some serious resentments keeping him from being happy in life. And I mean serious resentments. But during this lesson, which was actually a Gospel Principles class with just him, us, and the teacher, we talked to JB and testified and felt the Spirit. The teacher bore her testimony and we saw him get emotional. We had been asking if he'd let us give him a priesthood blessing for a while but he hadn't really understood it and hadn't agreed to it. But when we asked him again during the lesson, he said yes. We laid our hands on his head and my companion gave him a priesthood blessing. Afterward he said that he felt a weight had been lifted.

Now, JB's an older guy and very set in his ways. We've been by a couple times since and he has regressed a little bit. But we are making some small progress, which is pretty cool.

A rural area is very different. With our mileage limitations we simply can't go everywhere in our area very often. But I've learned to adjust and I'm starting to not constantly worry that we aren't accomplishing enough.

The complete "Saints" came out and I decided I'd buy the physical version instead of continuing to read it digitally. I'm currently awaiting that delivery so I can sit down and have a good read with the physical version, which will be easier to read as a missionary because then I can read it when my companion isn't next to me. #SafeguardsForUsingTechnology

Although I started reading Jesus the Christ and that's definitely enough reading material in and of itself... Well, we'll see how long it takes me to finish reading (A) the New Testament [followed by the Doctrine and Covenants, followed by the Old Testament, followed by the Pearl of Great Price], (B) The Book of Mormon [again], (C) Jesus the Christ, and (C) Saints: The Standard of Truth.

Also we played The Settlers of Zarahemla today, which is a licensed version of Settlers of Catan. I had never played either version. But it's pretty fun. I won somehow.

I'm doing really well. Hope all of you are too.

Dear friends and family, Jon was baptized on Saturday! This is my first baptism where I set things up and the person being baptized actually showed up to the baptism. Feels nice. And the next day I was able to confirm him a member of the Church. A first for me! We're very proud of Jon. He's come a long way. Elder Lewis and I have scheduled our year-mark temple trip, which will be this Friday. Because of how the rules work with us going to the temple (and since that was the only day we could get someone to drive us), this Friday will be our next P-day and we will not have a P-day next Monday. After that things should go back to normal. I'm very interested in/excited to go to the temple. On another note, since I've decided to head right into school when I get back, President Stratford has recommended a slightly early release for me (so I don't turn lazy again while waiting for school to begin) which will be... December 14th . So mark the date....

"We've got your mission call." Whaaaat?

Dear family and friends, We had Zone Conference this last Thursday, and though I still have trouble getting excited about long meetings, it was good. After it ended, President Walker came up to me and pulled me aside. I assumed it was something about my two-transfer mission, because that had happened before. What I didn't expect was what he said next: "We've got your mission call." Whaaaat? I had expected it to come over two weeks later, as that was what happened to another two-transfer missionary. Apparently it isn't always the same! For those who have not yet heard, I am going to the Columbus, Ohio mission after this transfer ends on the 27th. We received a referral a few days ago. A woman named Brinca was going through a hard time and was inspired to look randomly at Snapchat, of all places. There she found some kind of ad for the Book of Mormon as a place to turn for peace. She saw she could call and order one for free, so she did, and it got ...

Incredible News (11/4/2019)

Dear friends and family, We've been trying our best to make things happen in Mansfield. Progress has been a little bit slow. Adapting to new areas isn't my favorite thing. Hard to know if you're doing your best. But we're doing okay overall. So we got some incredible news... an apostle is visiting our mission. I've been waiting my entire mission for something like this.  Dieter F. Uchtdorf  is coming to visit the Ohio Columbus Mission on November 23rd. The entire mission will be together which in and of itself is unprecedented at least in my time. I am very much looking forward to that. In other news, I started My Plan this week, which is a 6-week program for missionaries when they are in their last transfer in order to prepare them for their return home and ensure they transition well. It's kinda weird because I've already partly gone through it with the three missionaries I killed off (Elder Penny, Elder Henrie, and Elder Miller ...
