Special Tuesday Edition (7/3)

Hi guys,

They want us proselyting on the Fourth of July SO p-day is happening on Tuesday this week. (Actually next week as well for some other reason that I can't recall.)

Well, we did not baptize our own convert last month. But Elder Henrie had someone he taught from a previous area baptized and he also performed the baptism for a little Nepali girl not long ago, so maybe either or both of those count?

An article for you: "What Will You Choose?" January 2015 Ensign. I wrote the name of the article down days ago though and I don't remember why I thought it was good anymore but I know it was!

In other unexciting news, I had someone tell us that we are deceivers who are going to Hell for the first time in my mission. It happened yesterday on exchanges. We were walking by some apartments and this really nervous-looking guy comes out the door and starts talking to us. Asks us what we're doing and then what missionaries are. We tell him we teach people about Jesus Christ. Then with a passive-aggressive smile on his face he says something about how his dad was a Mormon and we're deceiving people to Hell. Spirit gone!

"I know what you Mormons believe! You don't believe Jesus is God!"
"That's not true."
"You believe Jesus died on a stake!"
"That's Jehovah's Witnesses!"
"..."

That's just a little sampling of the idiotic conversation we had. Let me tell you, this man was beyond creepy. I could quickly tell that something was seriously off about him. He kept telling us over and over about how "filled with the Spirit" he was, like saying it repeatedly made it true. If I knew nothing about Christianity and I met this guy, I'd make sure to run as far away as I possibly could from anything Christian.

But the weirdest part was when I realized that his "pattern of debate" was extremely similar to another guy I met weeks ago who told us he went to the same church as this creepy man. They both started off by telling us "You don't believe Jesus is God", followed by rambling about the Trinity. We then say something about how Stephen in the Book of Acts saw Jesus on the right hand of God or ask how Jesus can pray to Himself. It goes right over their head. Any time we say something logical they proceed to ramble on for ten minutes jumping from topic to topic and trying to sound smart, always whipping out the doctrines they know we disagree on, like insta-salvation through declaration of faith alone or the Fall of Adam and Eve being negative, and doing their best to not let us get any words out.

These people are literally training to have one-sided debates with us.

...What a waste of time!

But it truly strengthened my testimony of the truth of the apostasy. These creeds of the Trinity, insta-salvation, and the Fall of Adam and Eve being negative truly are an "abomination" because they prevent people from actually knowing God and returning to Him. And without apostles and prophets these people truly are "carried about with every wind of doctrine". They truly are deceiving themselves, and if they never repent they'll never meet the God they claim to know.

I wish I could do more to convert people. Often I feel like I'm not doing enough. But for now, I guess, it seems like this mission is primarily for my own conversion.

Talk to you next week,
Elder Gallagher

Ether 2:12
Behold, this is a choice land, and whatsoever nation shall possess it shall be free from bondage, and from captivity, and from all other nations under heaven, if they will but serve the God of the land, who is Jesus Christ, who hath been manifested by the things which we have written.

2 Nephi 1:7
Wherefore, this land is consecrated unto him whom he shall bring. And if it so be that they shall serve him according to the commandments which he hath given, it shall be a land of liberty unto them; wherefore, they shall never be brought down into captivity; if so, it shall be because of iniquity; for if iniquity shall abound cursed shall be the land for their sakes, but unto the righteous it shall be blessed forever.

Doctrine and Covenants 101:77-80
77 According to the laws and constitution of the people, which I have suffered to be established, and should be maintained for the rights and protection of all flesh, according to just and holy principles;
78 That every man may act in doctrine and principle pertaining to futurity, according to the moral agency which I have given unto him, that every man may be accountable for his own sins in the day of judgment.
79 Therefore, it is not right that any man should be in bondage one to another.
80 And for this purpose have I established the Constitution of this land, by the hands of wise men whom I raised up unto this very purpose, and redeemed the land by the shedding of blood.
