A Seventy Hugged Me (11/19/2018)

Missionary Mondays are back. We had Stake Conference yesterday, presided over by Elder J. Costa of the Seventy as well as Elder Kunz. Before it began Elder Costa came up to us in the back of the gym, greeted us in Spanish, and hugged us. I didn't even fully realize it was him--I'd seen a picture of him but it's always a little different seeing them in person. It was a good conference. Most of it was the release of a longtime stake presidency and the calling of a new one. The new stake president, President Coburn, didn't even arrive until midway through everything because he got his call kinda by surprise and he was in Utah at his son's or somebody's temple wedding. So he and his wife flew back on a red-eye flight which I used to know the definition of but all I know now is that (I assume) it's inconvenient, and arrived in the nick of time I guess, haha. Things are getting pretty cold here. Already it's snowed pretty decently heavy...

Dear friends and family, So as I said last week, I am training a new missionary! His name is Elder Whitcomb. He's from New York like myself and he is a two-transfer missionary just like I was. I was very surprised by that. Training is really hard. Hah. We had a lot of cool teaching experiences this week... I'll start from the beginning. So Elder Pay and I had our last proselyting evening together on Wednesday evening. Inexplicably I started feeling this weird self-confidence come out of nowhere. I felt super awesome, like I was more "myself" than I had been for weeks. Things kind of come together in my mind; I understood why Elder Pay had been my companion. At least in part, it was to prepare me for training a new missionary. I thanked God for this completely beyond-explanation chemical reaction that happened when I combined with Elder Pay that somehow at the very end of our companionship made me feel awesome. Happy Conference Weekend, everybody!

First week in the MTC! It's...weird. Hah, yep, it is weird being here after having already been out for twelve weeks. It's not the kind of place [large campuses]  that I normally love being in, but it's been fun nonetheless. Our classes have been very good, my district is really great, and I'm never hungry. Speaking of that, don't bother sending me food. It's always a nice gesture, but I definitely do not need it. They feed us well. I haven't touched any of the snacks I already have since I got here, and my new companion, Elder Neddo, shared some Easter candy with me yesterday that I also haven't touched yet. I don't know what I'd do with more yet MORE food! So, conference starts today! I hope everyone is excited to hear the new prophet speak. I am looking forward to it.
