Hey everyone,
This week has been pretty interesting. After realizing that the area is really way too big to be a bike area--it takes over an hour to bike from one end to the other--we petitioned our leaders and now we get a car every other week, which will really help the work here.
In class on Sunday we talked about a couple of things that I want to share. The prophet Abinadi's story is a testament to how we don't always see the point of preaching God's word, nor do we always see the results of our efforts. As far as Abinadi knew when he died, nobody has listened to him and he died pointlessly. But without his testimony Alma wouldn't have been converted and the rest of the good things in the Book of Mormon wouldn't have happened.
Then there's something from Moses that they talked about in the MTC that I forgot to share--
Moses 6:31-32
31 And when Enoch had heard these words, he bowed himself to the earth, before the Lord, and spake before the Lord, saying: Why is it that I have found favor in thy sight, and am but a lad, and all the people hate me; for I am slow of speech; wherefore am I thy servant?
32 And the Lord said unto Enoch: Go forth and do as I have commanded thee, and no man shall pierce thee. Open thy mouth, and it shall be filled, and I will give thee utterance, for all flesh is in my hands, and I will do as seemeth me good.
That's what I've seen this past week. I am very young. All the people hate me. I am slow of speech. Why am I God's servant?
But God qualifies us if we do as he has commanded. So all we can do is go to work and trust Him.
The other thing I want to share is Preach My Gospel chapter 6. I invite everyone to read it. I reread it a couple days ago and was most struck with Charity and Love. Seeing others as children of God with divine potential gives us the correct perspective with which we can understand them and their point of view. It makes us into true, Christlike Saints. Without charity, we are nothing. Too many people, Latter-day Saints included, are not loving or charitable. We need to improve. We need to be Christlike.
I promise God can give you patience, or humility, or charity, or any other Christlike attribute if you put forth the effort.
Love,
Elder Gallagher
